This is a Type I temporary holding facility with a capacity of twelve. It houses people arrested in the greater Truckee area — including arrestees from Nevada, Sierra, and Placer counties — before they are transferred to the appropriate main jail. It also holds inmates transported in daily from Wayne Brown for appearances at the Truckee Branch court.
The substation is not a long-term facility. If someone is booked here, expect a transfer. How quickly depends on the transport schedule and, in winter, on the summit.

The Truckee courthouse hears criminal and civil matters for the eastern side of the county and shares the Joseph Center with other Nevada County departments. There is a holding area on site for inmates awaiting appearances.

Truckee PD is the primary law enforcement agency inside town limits and the arresting agency for most Truckee arrests. Outside town limits, on the interstate, and in the unincorporated county, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and CHP handle enforcement — which is why the county of jurisdiction is not always obvious from where the arrest happened.
